Hello Book Club!

Our next book club meeting will be Monday, June 22nd at 7:30pm -- we will finally be able to discuss Uprooted by Naomi Novik, and Annette will bring book suggestions. Because the library is now open, anyone who wishes can meet in the building, but we will also set up a virtual login so anyone can login from home (or from wherever you might be)!

You are invited to a scheduled Zoom meeting:
Topic: Book Club - Uprooted
Time: Jun 22, 2020 07:30 PM Alaska
Meeting ID: 870 6529 2412 (no password)

If you still need copies of Uprooted, the library can provide copies via amazon and kindle.  Please contact Ticee at tvcl.director@gmail.com.  There are also copies of our next book, Unfollow, available at the library.  If you still have a copy of Happiness Hypothesis or White Dawn, make sure to return it to the library drop box.  There are a few ILL copies floating around.

Our next book in July will be Unfollow: A Memoir of Loving and Leaving the Westboro Baptist Church by Megan Phelps-Roper -- "A gripping memoir of escaping extremism and falling in love, Unfollow relates Phelps-Roper’s moral awakening, her departure from the church, and how she exchanged the absolutes she grew up with for new forms of warmth and community. Rich with suspense and thoughtful reflection, Phelps-Roper’s life story exposes the dangers of black-and-white thinking and the need for true humility in a time of angry polarization." ~Amazon.com

Summary of Uprooted from goodreads.com:

Agnieszka loves her valley home, her quiet village, the forests and the bright shining river. But the corrupted Wood stands on the border, full of malevolent power, and its shadow lies over her life.

Her people rely on the cold, driven wizard known only as the Dragon to keep its powers at bay. But he demands a terrible price for his help: one young woman handed over to serve him for ten years, a fate almost as terrible as falling to the Wood.

The next choosing is fast approaching, and Agnieszka is afraid. She knows - everyone knows - that the Dragon will take Kasia: beautiful, graceful, brave Kasia, all the things Agnieszka isn't, and her dearest friend in the world. And there is no way to save her.

But Agnieszka fears the wrong things. For when the Dragon comes, it is not Kasia he will choose.
From the author of the Temeraire series comes this hugely imaginative, engrossing and vivid fantasy novel, inspired by folk and fairy tales.
