We will discuss The White Dawn: An Eskimo Saga by James Houston, and Vanessa will bring book suggestions.

Our next book in May will be Uprooted by Naomi Novik -- " Agnieszka loves her valley home, her quiet village, the forests and the bright shining river. But the corrupted Wood stands on the border, full of malevolent power, and its shadow lies over her life."  WINNER OF THE NEBULA AWARD FOR BEST NOVEL • Naomi Novik, author of the New York Times bestselling and critically acclaimed Temeraire novels, introduces a bold new world rooted in folk stories and legends, as elemental as a Grimm fairy tale. ~ Amazon.com

The White Dawn: An Eskimo Saga from goodreads.com:

"In 1896, three survivors from a whaling misadventure are nursed back to health by Eskimo villagers who share their food, women, and way of life with the strangers. In return, the foreigners introduce to the villagers the spirit of competitiveness that rules the white man's world. Map and drawings by the Author."

He has since traveled widely in the Arctic region, from Iceland to Alaska, as well as in Scandinavia, Russia, Mexico, and Europe.
